Step 2: Check that the fence posts can support a gate.
The size of the garden gate must not exceed 1.22m. Measure the entrance at the top and bottom, as they can easily be different.
Step three: Attach and secure the fence posts, if necessary.
Anthony TC Williams of WikiHow said: “You need to make sure that hanging the gate doesn't pull the posts aside. How you anchor the column depends on the size of the fence, but in general, you need to ensure that the column does not move with the weight.
“If it can be easily moved, the gate will sag. You should also check and see if the post is level, up and down. "
Ideally, a 1.22 m high gate needs a 12.7 cm x 12.7 cm redwood pole.
The hole the post will occupy must be at least 10 cm deeper than the post will be buried. The post should be buried at least 1/3, but preferably 1/2 of its length and the hole should be 3 x the width of the post.
