With more than 72 shows and 37 years of fashion behind it, Carolina Herrera made his final arc after presenting his fall 2018 collection at the Museum of Modern Art. Herrera appointed Wes Gordon to continue his legacy, producing designs that combine haute couture craftsmanship with usability and bold elegance.
The Carolina Herrera brand, Gordon tells us, is "fearless and fabulous"; a perfect match for a memorable red carpet look. He says that the most successful sets are when someone dresses for you: "Wear something that makes you feel beautiful, that is right for you and amplifies your uniqueness".
When working on a custom piece for a celebrity, Gordon reveals that the process often leads to friendship. Personal friend Katy Perry was the ideal choice for a dramatic dotted tulle creation. "Polka dots are a perfect impression for the night because they are fun and irreverent," he says. Another winning outfit was Yara Shahidi's sun-yellow silk dress, worn at the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globes after the party. "She looks so cool and confident without effort," reflects Gordon.
In addition to wearing the Hollywood list, Gordon admits: "I always get emotional when I'm walking down the street and I see someone wearing Herrera in the wild."
